Clean and Safety Synthesis of Nitroxide Polymer by Hydrogen Peroxide Oxidation

Dr. Yoshiiro Kon, Senior Researcher of Innovarive Oxidation Team, and Dr. Kazuhiko Sato, and Sumitomo Seika Chemicals Co., Ltd. jointly developed the green oxidation system which convert nitrogen containing polymer to useful nitroxide polymer. The catalytic system was developed by the combination of tungsten compound and phosphonic acid derivative in the presence of hydrogen peroxide using N,N-dimethylacetamide solvent. The developed system is greener than those of previous oxidation system because the system uses highly toxic chlorinate solvent with peracetic acid. The new catalytic hydroperoxide system enable to make the nitroxide polymer that is useful as functianal materials with clean and safe reaction conditions.
