Development of Novel Immobilized Catalysts

We have developed a tripodal linker unit that enables firm immobilization of molecular catalysts on silica. The silica-immobilized amino-palladium complex catalyst via the tripodal linker is effective for preventing metal leaching into the product after the Suzuki coupling reaction.

Synergistic Hybrid Catalysts

The catalytic activity of onium salts towards cyclic carbonate synthesis from propylene oxide and CO2 is enormously enhanced by their immobilization onto silica that itself has no catalytic activity.

Magnetically Recoverable Osmium Catalysts

We have developed magnetically recoverable osmium catalysts. By employing 2 mol% of the magnetic osmium catalyst, the dihydroxylation reaction proceeds smoothly to provide the vicinal diol. The catalyst is readily recovered by use of an external magnet, and is reused repeatedly.

Efficient Synthesis via Nanoporous Catalysts

We have found that mesoporous alumino-silicates (Al-MCM-41) exhibit much higher catalytic activities than amorphous silica-alumina or zeolites for several important reactions in organic synthesis, including cyanosilylation and Mukaiyama aldol reaction.
